Laser Bikes: leave a wall of light, be the last bike riding

A fast, simple multiplayer game for kids. Every bike trails a wall of light, and touching one — anybody's, even your own — gets you tagged. The last bike still riding wins the round.

How a round works

Everybody starts on a ring around the middle of the arena. After a three-second countdown the bikes go, and they never stop: all you can do is turn. Wherever a bike has been, it leaves a wall of light.

Ride into a wall of light — anybody's, even your own — or into the edge of the arena, and you're tagged. You watch the rest of the round and ride again in the next one. The last bike riding wins the round, and the first to 3, 5 or 10 round wins takes the match.

🎮Controls

Keyboard: Arrow keys or W A S D to steer. The space bar sends out a laser blast.
Phone or tablet: Tap the turn buttons, or swipe on the arena. The star button sends out a laser blast.
Leaving a room: Press Q twice. The first press only shows a reminder, because Q sits right next to W.

Rooms, friends and robots

Quick play drops you into an open room, or opens one. Create a room opens one that anybody can join from the home screen — tick Private room first, and its four-letter code (or its invite link) is the only way in.

Up to eight riders share a room. No friends online? Add a robot or three — Easy, Normal or Hard. Easy is where everybody starts, and riding on your own works too.

Small arena, huge arena

The host picks the arena size, from 50 × 50 up to 300 × 300 cells. Everything is measured in cells, so a bigger arena doesn't make a bigger picture — it makes smaller bikes, and more room for eight riders to spread out. Small arenas are quick and frantic; huge ones are for long rides.

Bonuses

Bonuses appear for five seconds at a random spot — grab one by riding into it. A ghost (every 30 seconds) lets you ride straight through one wall of light. A laser blast (every 60 seconds) is sent out with the space bar or the star button, and tags every other rider right next to you.

👻Robots never pick up bonuses, so a ghost is always yours to race for.

Keep your name — if you want to

Nobody has to sign up: type any made-up name, or roll the dice for one. If you like your name you can keep it: give an email address — yours, or a grown-up's — and open the link we send. From then on nobody else can ride with that name, it works on any device, and your wins count in the weekly hall of fame. There is no password: coming back is another emailed link.

The hall of fame only counts rounds between at least two people, so beating robots on your own doesn't put you there.

Five tips for your first ride

Turn early. Your bike never stops, so the wall ahead is always closer than it looks.
Head for open space. The middle fills up fast; the far corners stay quiet for longer.
Your own wall counts too. Don't spiral yourself into a corner.
Box others in: ride alongside somebody and cut across in front of them.
Save a laser blast for the moment somebody is right next to you.

For parents

Laser Bikes is made for young children, and nobody crashes or gets hurt: a bike that touches a wall is tagged, in every language. Riding needs no account, no real name and no download. Rooms show made-up names only, there is no chat, and a private room can only be reached with its code.

The one optional exception is keeping a name, which asks for an email address and nothing else. It is used only to send sign-in links, is never shown to other players, and there are no passwords. The privacy page has the details.
